Target Cluster Review
The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is currently focusing its retention/expansion
activities on four identified local industry clusters: Hospitality
and Tourism; Emerging Technologies; Advanced Materials and Manufacturing;
and Health Care and Life Sciences.
Market Street will use this proposed Economic Development
Study process to review Arlington’s existing clusters
to determine their current viability, and if any revisions or alterations
need to be made to the community’s targets.
The basis of Market Street’s work will be the results
of the Competitive Position assessment, the feedback from stakeholders
in the public input process, and additional data work focused on
Arlington’s recent and current economic structure viewed through
the prism of emerging national and global industrial trends.
The Target Cluster Review will include research on:
Economic structure of the Arlington economy, at the two- and
three-digit NAICS code levels, including location quotient and
shift-share analysis; Short- and medium-term sector performance
trends; Supportive capacity and infrastructure for existing Arlington
target industries; and Emerging site-location and economic/industrial
trends at the regional, state and national levels.
Market Street technical advisor will assess Arlington’s
target industries based on the full complement of research conducted
for this project to determine the viability of the community’s
four target clusters, and whether adjustments or additions are
demanded by the current realities of the regional, state and national
economies.
